Video Transcript:

Since I have 150 miles on this road, I thought I would tell you how I got here. So, some background information; I grew up in Massachusetts and once I graduated from high school my parents moved down to North Carolina. So, it really starts in 2019. By that time, I’d lived in North Carolina for five years and my friends and family were all scattered around the US, really, so I kind of felt like I was out in the middle of nowhere. I was kind of wondering like, “Why do I have to be here now?”. I mean, besides the fact that my parents were there. They were the only ones there. It was just really a pain just to see my friends and family. I started thinking about making a move. One day my mom and I brought my dogs to a nearby dog park and, my mom talks to everyone so she was just chatting with this woman, who kind of casually mentioned that she used to live in an RV and travel around the country and work and when I heard that, I had never heard of that before, like that concept. My dad always says that when I get an idea in my head, I have to do it yesterday. I was working for a really big company and I really had minimal interaction with anybody except through the computer so I thought I would just go to my manager and say, “Hey what if I just worked remotely?” and he thought about it and he was like, “I don’t see why not”. my manager did say that he would have to ask his manager, our director, just to confirm that it would be okay. So now we’re into early 2020. He comes back to me and he says, “Hey I talked to my manager and she said company policy is that your position works in the office”. So, I went home and I was completely devastated. I usually bounce back pretty quickly from things, so by the next day I was already looking for a new job because I was dead set On doing this full-time thing. So my dad had sat me down and then he kind of casually mentioned like, “Hey, I’ve been looking for an assistant for a while but I think you could be an assistant to me plus a lot more since you have so much experience in the industry that we don’t have in our company”. Oh, and his company was completely remote. So that was on a Friday. On Monday, I went into my corporate job and I went to my director and I said, “I’m giving my two weeks’ notice”. That’s pretty much the end of the story and I started working for my dad. I’ve been working for him for a year as of yesterday actually.
